July 2020 Newsletter

Welcome to the 2020 - 2021 school year!  The first day is on September 7th and 8th.  We would like to welcome new families to our school and give special thanks to all of our returning families for their continued support in our program and staff.  The 2020-2021 school year promises to be filled with exciting events and new enhancements to our curriculum.

Open house:   We will have open house on Monday, August 3rd. Tuesday & Thursday class should come between 10:00 and 12:00. MWF classes should come between 12:00 and 2:00.  If you have a friend interested, feel free to bring them with you.   We ask that you bring a copy of your immunization and health check up (green form) if you do not have it on file. Please come in to fill out paper work and meet the teachers.  If you know of anyone interested, feel free to bring them, we have a few available spots.

What you need for school:  Your child will need to bring a backpack to school each day.  Please make sure to label the backpack with your child’s name.  We do have duplicates.  Inside the backpack should be a bag of back up clothes in case of a spill or accident.

School Supply List: A container of Clorox wipes, paper towel, Kleenex and toilet paper for the school. Each child will need a pencil box filled with a pack of washable markers, crayons, a glue bottle, glue sticks, and scissors.  The pencil should be labelled on the outside with your child’s name.

Fundraisers: In order to keep tuition low, we do two fundraisers a year.  We ask that each family participate in both.

Tuition:  Tuition may be left in your child’s folder on the first on each month in an envelope marked tuition.  The first tuition is due August 1stt.  The first tuition can be mailed to Petite School of Knowledge at 53300 Van Dyke Shelby Township, Michigan, 48316 or paid at open house.  If tuition is paid after the 10th a $10 late fee will be assessed. Tuition for the 2020-2021 school year will be paid in 10 installments.  The first installment is due August 1st .  The installments for MWF are $320 & TTH $175 and $210 for extended day.

Next Year’s Tuition: will be made in 10 installments.  We have requested the 1st installment to be paid in August.  The last installment will be paid in May.  You may mail in the tuition:  53300 Van Dyke, Shelby Township, MI. 48316.

TTH 10-2 $170.00

MWF All day 9-2:30 $315.00

Late Fees:  If tuition is paid after the 10th of the month a $10 late fee will be assessed.  Please be considerate when picking up your children.   If you will be late please call and let us know.  If you are more than ten minutes late a $10 late fee for each ten minutes will be billed for every occurrence.

Practicing our names:   When working with your child on writing their name, please do so with one capital letter, followed by lower case letters.  This will make it much easier for them to learn to write their name correctly from the beginning. It is hard to convince a child to write with lower case letters if they have been taught otherwise.  If your child will attend a private school for kindergarten please let us know at the beginning of the year since they use a different style of letters then the public schools.

Book orders:  Scholastic book orders will be going home with your child each month.  You are under no obligation to purchase books but it is worth the time to see if any of the books are of interest to you.  They are good quality books and are reasonably priced.  Orders are usually back within 2-3 weeks after sending them in.  Please write checks out to Scholastic.

What takes place in school:  Art: You may have heard this tip before but it is worth repeating.  Art with preschoolers is about the PROCESS not the PRODUCT.  It is important that they feel the dough, see the color, touch the textures, and improve their fine motor skills while learning to glue, build, use scissors, and draw or paint detail.  Whether they create a fine sculpture or a magnificent masterpiece is not the point.  Learning and creating for preschoolers needs to be fun.  Monday and Tuesdays we work on free end art, which allows our children to decide what they want to design.  This includes messy painting.  Wednesday and Thursdays we make a project that helps teach the children to follow directions and allows the children to express their creativity.  On Fridays we make a letter page for the letter of the week.  We ask you keep each page at home so that you can make it in a book from A-Z.  If your child misses a day please remind us and we will send home supplies so they will have a complete book at the end of the year.

Learning: Our children learn through hands-on fun.  We play games, do workbooks, experiments and other learning activities.  The most important thing that we teach our children is confidence and self esteem.  Remember each child grows at a different level and has different individual talents.  Monday and Tuesdays we work on numbers and math.  Wednesday and Thursday we do journals and letter recognition.  Fridays we do a letter page.

Names please:  As cooler weather sets in, please make sure that your child comes to preschool with a labeled coat.  We often have duplicate coats and lunchboxes.  Please make sure the backpacks are labeled as well.

Car pool:  Car pool will start at a later date to be determined.  Once it starts,  please remember to go around the building with your car facing Van Dyke.  We ask that you stay in the car and we will bring your child to you.  If you need extra time getting your child adjusted please pull up so the cars behind you are able to leave.  If someone different is picking up your child they will need to come inside to have their name checked on their release form.

Snack:  Snack is provided on a rotation basis by the parents.  Snack calendar will come home at the beginning of each month.  They are also posted on our website petiteschool.org.  Tuesday and Thursday class needs to bring in 20 snacks and MWF class needs to bring in 20 as well as juice boxes or water.  Snack person is also responsible to bring in cups, napkins, paper towel and spoons if needed.  Popular choices include: goldfish, cheese and crackers, animal crackers, and fruit.  If you miss your snack day please send in a back-up.

Paper work:  We will need the following paper work completed each year before the start of school.

Emergency card.  Please remember that your child cannot be released to another person UNLESS   they are on your emergency card.  Identification will need to be presented when the child is picked up.  All lines of the Emergency card must be filled in (state requirement).

Audio and field trip release form

Health appraisals must be filled out and returned to school by October 1st, 2020.  An updated copy must be filled out by your doctor each year.
